Relax and Have A Picnic
Summer in San Diego is our favorite time for picnics, as there are outdoor spaces everywhere to enjoy the relaxing activity.
BEACH – Packing up your picnic hamper for a beach day and staying to watch the sunset is our idea of the ultimate picnic. Our favorite spot is La Jolla Shores Park, and along the way stop by Coopers Market, cooperslajolla.com, to stock up on provisions, including freshly sliced meats, cheeses, quinoa bowls, and yummy stud muffins.
BAY – The many park areas surrounding Mission Bay makes a beautiful and convenient place for both picnics for two or the big family gathering. If you’re staying at one of the resorts along Mission Bay, grab and go picnics are available, such as the Catamaran’s Lava Java Café, catamaranresort.com, that can set you up with sandwiches and salads, and coffee from local roaster Ryan Bros. Coffee.
PARK – One of the more relaxing places to picnic is in Balboa Park, with so many grassy spots to choose from, you can easily spend the whole day there reading a book, throwing around a Frisbee, and visiting the various museums. Stop by Patio Express, thepatioexpress.com, and fill up your basket with snack boxes, wraps, and acai bowls.
WINERY – What better way to enjoy a picnic than with a glass of wine! At Orfila Winery, orfila.com, get your wine from their spacious tasting room, which also has picnic provisions available or order from the food truck on weekends when there is also live music on weekends. A glass of wine in one hand, cheese and salami on your plate, overlooking the vineyards…that is relaxation my friends.
